Jamie's been so obsessed with Star Wars lately. Practically every day I find him slipping one into the dvd player, with a trail of the other choices lined up across the floor.
When his cousin Jordan comes to visit, a Star Wars movie is sure to be their entertainment. Watching Star Wars. An occasional light saber duel. Happy boys.

I have noticed Jamie's two favorites are Return of the Jedi and Attack of the Clones. I couldn't begin to know why those two in particular. Then I thought of two very good reasons:
Even though Princess Amidala/Padme and Princess Leia star in all the movies, we can all come together and know that they are the most striking in these two. I mean, Carrie Fisher's metal bikini is one of the top iconic bathing suit scenes of all time. I think we spent a full 2 hour class discussing it in one of my Rhetoric and Iconic Images speech classes.

Jordan and Jamie affectionately call Padme, "Paddy" and cheer her on as she fights the crazy monster cheetah thing in the arena on Attack of the Clones. And their eyes are glued to the tv during the scene with Princess Leia in Return of the Jedi on Jabba the Hut's ship.

A couple Saturdays ago, Jamie was watching Star Wars when our neighbors from down the street with two little boys came by to say hi. In order to explain my pj's and bra-less state at 11:30 a.m., I said we were having a lazy Saturday morning watching Star Wars. The mom laughed, "my boys love those too, most especially Return of the Jedi and Attack of the Clones for some reason. Weird, huh?"

Ha! I knew it! Suspicions confirmed, yet another generation of boys falling in love with the heroines of Star Wars.

That's hilarious Liv! The Star Wars infascination starts young and lasts until they are Grandpa's. In their minds it will always be considered "classic".
