Solvang's Danish Days
We packed a picnic dinner & went Friday night for the candlelight parade through the village. Then we attended the opening ceremonies, where they crown the Danish Maid. Isn't she lovely?
After the opening ceremony, there was story-telling by a man playing Hans Christian Andersen which was really impressive & then traditional Danish dancing in the pavilion. It was absolutely beautiful! On the way home late at night, we told the children about their great-great-grandpa Ole Hans Jacobsen who came from Denmark (Adam's great-grandpa). He was very musical & accompanied all the dances in the county. And he & his wife, Ruby, were knowledgeable about herbs & holistic medicines. They could be called on night & day to treat a sick person and Ruby helped deliver hundreds of babies in their town. What amazing people.
Next year, we hope to go for aebleskiver & sausage breakfast that they serve at the street fair in the morning!
