My Adolescent Four Year Old

It's a good thing children are so funny and cute. Because otherwise they would drive me crazy ALL the time, instead of just 95% of the time. :)
Like for instance today, when I had to sit up in the front of church for two hours with not only my class of four year olds, but also the five year old class because their teacher did not come today, practicing for the big Children's Primary Program where the children perform (sing songs they've learned and recite little quotes or scriptures having to do with a particular theme) for the entire congregation next week. And they tried to be good, but it was two whole hours after all, and children can only sit for so long. I took them for a walk around the church about an hour and a half into it. I figured I owed them that much. And I surreptitiously passed them animal crackers and apple slices despite the looks of disapproval from the other adults. Maybe my class was the most disruptive, I don't know, but I felt bad for the children... they were looking wane and lethargic. Anyways, then I took them for the walk and they all spastically ran ahead of me even though I asked them to stay close, and I lost track of a bunch of them as they rounded a corner fifty miles ahead of me. I ran to keep up, but with my dainty new red high-heels, it was hard. I didn't feel bad for them anymore. They had now turned into mischievous, maniacal, little elves who were out to ruin my day. I chased, I called ahead, I admonished, I gathered, and I led them back into the chapel to finish practice until the blessed hour of four o clock when their parents would come collect them.
Anyways, sorry, long story. I think I'm just really abused from my day. It was hard... and Adam wasn't even there to make it better because he had to work and Annabelle wouldn't go to Nursery so I had her too. And all the other mommy's got out of their class all spiritually replenished and calm and happy, ready to greet their dear little ones. And I went home more worn out than ever.
Back to how funny kids are (I really went off there, didn't I? Sorry about that.) Jamie threw me for a loop at lunch. He all of a sudden asks me, "Mommy, do the boys balls have something to do with putting baby's in mommy's tummies?"
Ummmmmmm.....
Well actually yes Jamie, and this is how it goes... I mean, what do you say when your four year old asks you this?
I believe children are a little too smart sometimes. My goodness, putting that together at four. I gave him a simple, short, truthful answer. And hopefully won't have to explain more until a much later date.
A much, much later date please.

This was perfect timing. I teach the sunbeams too and today was one of those days! I had nine all by myself. It was okay until half of them want to run and go to the bathroom while the rest are in class...what to do...ask for help and look like I have nothing under control. Oh well...judge not. :) I totally understand what you went through. :) The program will be great next week. Good luck!

Okay, I am laughing my head off right now! Jamie CRACKS his Aunt Krissy up! It is hilarious what kids will come up with these days. I stand all amazed. And, yes.... Good ole' Sunbeams. Got to love it. Just remember Ibuprofen is your BEST FRIEND! Good luck next week.

That is hilarious! I guess that is what I have to look forward to with Kyle.
I hope the primary program is good and that all the teachers show up.
